Apple Cinnamon Sauce
It’s apple picking time and everyone here at home is looking forward to spending the day at the apple orchard and then coming home to whip up some delicious recipes! Here are four snack ideas you can make as a family using your basket of apples!
Green Juice
Juice 5 apples, 3 celery stalks, 1 peeled lemon, 1 English cucumber, and 500 mL (2 cups) of spinach in your juicer (should give you 500 mL)—an alkalizing and fresh tasting green juice for a burst of energy. My kids love it!
Apple Cinnamon Sauce Simply add about ten peeled and cubed apples to a pot with 125 mL (½ cup) of water, 15 mL (1 tbsp.) of cinnamon, and 60 mL (¼ cup) of maple syrup. Stir over medium heat for a few minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for another 20 minutes. Next purée in food processor, let cool, and refrigerate. You can also serve immediately while still warm with coconut ice cream, yum!
Protein Snack for Kids
Slice an apple and spread with a nut butter of your choice. Add some vegan coconut whipped cream (sold in the frozen section), and sprinkle with hemp seeds. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and savoury crunchiness (especially if you go with peanut butter), and a great protein boost, too!
Dried Apple Chips
This snack is easy to bring when you go for a hike and is a favourite for all ages!
First peel apples and slice with a mandolin (5 mm thick).
Sprinkle with cinnamon and coconut sugar to taste.
Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes at 120°C (250°F).
These are our favourites nowadays. All of them are easy to make and require little prep. With two young children hovering in and around the kitchen, it’s the perfect combination!
I hope you enjoy the time spent cooking apples with your family!
