After our long winter, spring is finally upon us! This makes us want to get outside and soak up some sunshine. Here are my best tricks for getting out and being active.

GO FOR A RUN IN THE PARK!

The snowbanks have melted and the paths are free and clear! Now is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors by going for a run or a long walk. Parks such as Maisonneuve and Lafontaine are great places to start running. The paths are paved and kept clean. To reduce muscle fatigue during your first runs of the season, I recommend adding BCAAs (amino acids) to your water. BCAA products are available at Rachelle Béry in a variety of flavours.

Here’s a good way to start running:

  • Start by walking briskly for 5-minutes
  • Then alternate the following sequence six times:
    • 2 minutes running at a regular pace
    • 1 minute running at a fast race
  • Finish off with another 5 minutes of walking

HAVE A SPRING PICNIC

After such a long winter, you deserve to enjoy a meal outdoors! It’s a great time to have your first picnic of the season. It can be as simple as serving up a few salads and sandwiches in a snow-free corner of the patio. Rachelle Béry has a great selection of healthy salads at its ready-to-eat counter! It’s also a great time to get out and enjoy your first ice-cream cone of the season. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

HEAD TO THE COUNTRYSIDE FOR A HIKE IN THE WOODS

A nature walk is an ideal and inexpensive outdoor activity for kids and adults alike. I love to go for long walks and treat myself to a trail mix of nuts and dried fruit while enjoying the scenery! Rachelle Béry has a bulk section so you can create your own trail mixes with your favourite nuts and dried fruit. There are so many options for outdoor activities this spring!
