Local is the way to go!
It’s no secret that buying local both encourages our talented producers and processors and helps boost our economy.
People are becoming more and more aware and often prefer local products to those that come from elsewhere. Plus, there’s a wide variety of local products available year-round!
This enthusiasm for local goods confirms the importance of Aliments du Québec, which offers consumers more than 25,000 products whose provenance has been verified.
What exactly does Aliments du Québec mean?
To bear this certification seal, products must be composed of at least 85% ingredients of Quebec origin and have been processed and packaged here.
If the organization has opted for 85% instead of 100%, it’s to give products the chance to qualify even if a small part of their ingredients, such as herbs and spices, flavourings, or preservatives, come from elsewhere. For example, chicken in a cumin marinade could bear the Aliments du Québec logo.
“Essentially, fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, milk, and dairy products bear this seal,” says Annie Martineau, Communications Advisor at Aliments du Québec.
And what about Aliments préparés au Québec?
The know-how of our processors also deserves to be highlighted! By offering a variety of everyday products, they manage to create an identity that is very québécois.
Thus, this certification seal attests that the products have indeed been processed and packaged here. These products must also be made with ingredients from Quebec, if they are available in sufficient quantities.
Coffees, beverages, snacks, and prepared meals are just a few examples of products that are considered Aliments préparés au Québec.
And Aliments du Québec – Bio?
Since 2013, Aliments du Québec has offered the organic certification seal, in response to the growing demand for a category of products that are made using more eco-friendly agriculture, livestock, and production methods.
“These products meet the same criteria as those identified by Aliments du Québec, in addition to being certified organic by the Filière biologique du Québec and the Conseil des appellations réservés et des termes valorisants,” explains Martineau.
Many products sold at Rachelle Béry proudly bear this logo, to the delight of consumers looking for products that are in line with their values and specific requirements.
Keep an eye out for our organic fruits, vegetables, spices, grains, oils, and dairy products (to name but a few)!
And finally, what does Aliments préparés au Québec – Bio mean?
As you can imagine, these are products classified Aliments préparés au Québec which are also certified organic. Among them are teas, spreads, and nut mixes. Yes, it’s the best of both worlds!
