Description
By Audrey Sckoropad
Acai berries are fruits from the South American acai palm, which Brazilians call the “tree of life.” A superfood rich in antioxidants and low in calories, acai berries are perfect in a smoothie bowl after the holiday indulgences. These bowls are the perfect breakfast replacement as they provide all the nutrition you need. (They are also a great to swap with ice cream for dessert!)
Consuming acai berries is said to slow down the skin’s aging process and helps with diarrhea, ulcers, hemorrhoids, parasitic infections, and cardiovascular diseases.
In Quebec, acai berries are sold as a frozen puree in individual pouches. You can also find them in teas or as a dietary supplement. Either way, don’t go looking for them in the fruit department, as I highly doubt that you’ll get your hands on fresh acai berries!
