Description
Made from a shrub in the holly family, Yerba Maté is a traditional beverage in many South American countries. Its high caffeine content will keep you going for hours. We’ve prepared this refreshing take on Maté with a scoop of sweetness to energize your day.
You will need:
Ingredients
- 8 teaspoons
- of Yerba Maté from Camellia Sinensis Tea House
- of sparkling water
- ½ cup
- cane sugar
- ½ cup
- water
- 3
- sprigs of fresh mint
- Small pot
- Measuring cup
- Teaspoon or scale
- Tea filter or fine strainer
- Iced Tea Pitcher of at least 1.5L
Directions
- Step 1
- Iced Yerba Maté preparation: Add the Yerba Maté leaves to the sparkling water. Steep in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Strain the mixture.
- Step 2
- Mint sirup preparation: In a small pot bring the water and sugar to a boil over medium-high heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove the pot from the heat and add 2/3 of the fresh mint leaves. Let steep and cool for 15-20 minutes. Strain the mixture. The sirup can be kept many days in the fridge in an airtight container.

- Mocktail preparation: In your pitcher, add 100ml of the mint syrup to the Iced Yerba Maté. Stir lightly before serving on ice. Decorate with a lemon slice and fresh mint leaves. Enjoy! The mix gives 4 servings and can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days.
